Music Questions

4.) I’m not sure why I gravitate towards certain types of music. Probably just because I like the way it sounds. For some songs it’s because they remind me of places or times. Some types of music is just annoying. I feel like these are pretty vague answers to “Why do you gravitate towards certain types of music? Why do you think you dislike certain types of music?” but I feel like it is hard to describe why you like certain types of music and not others. I feel like it is trying to say why you like your favorite color. It’s almost as bad as trying to describe the flavor of salt without using the word salt/salty.
5.) A couple of my friends listen to the same types of music as me. I think that your friends might share the same styles of music because it is a similarity, and you tend to become friends with those that you share similarities with.
9.) One event I connect to music, is the time I was riding in the car on the way to the St. Louis arch for the first time, the song Dynamite by Taio Cruz was playing on the radio and ever since then when I hear that song I think of that time. That time that while riding in the car we drove through the city of St. Louis, seeing the arch off in the distance. I vaguely remember going under a bridge and more super tall buildings.  I think it is interesting that a simple song, an arrangement of notes and sounds and lyrics can bring back such a vivid memory.
12.) I like the music of Taylor Swift and I like that even with all of the criticism that she gets she just keeps going and keeps making good music. I also like the music of Maroon 5. I don’t really know why, I just like it. I usually only like one sometimes two songs by an artist or band but with Maroon 5 I actually like quite a few of their songs.
14.) Music can sometimes distract me when nothing else can. It gives me something to listen to when I don’t want to hear the cuss word ridden conversations of others. It can be something to do when I don’t want to do anything else.
15.) I have thought about singing as a profession but I get too much stage fright. So maybe if I get over that… actually probably not even then, I like to sing, but I don’t think I’m that good at it so I don’t think I would want to put myself in front of others while singing.

  1. I associate "Dynamite" with a How Day assembly a few years ago--it was playing as we all left the football stadium. Then I quoted it in a blog post I did about my birthday and getting older and deciding to be okay with it: "I throw my hands up in the air sometimes...I want to celebrate and live my life."
